The House System
Running alongside the pastoral year system, we have a house system here at Fearnhill School. The purpose of the house system is to encourage healthy competition between students and to give the opportunity to students of all ages to come together and get to know each other.
KEY FEATURES
- There are four Houses.
- Each House has a colour associated with it and a member of staff as its head.
- Each student is allocated a House (including Sixth Form students) and will remain in that House throughout their time at the school.
HOUSE EVENTS
We organise a selection of house events throughout the year, with house points allocated in each competition. Events include the Great Fearnhill Bakeoff, Music Competition, Chess Competition, Video Game Competition and Festival of Sport. At the end of the school year, students in the winning house receive a prize.

Ebenezer Howard (1850–1928).
Sir Ebenezer Howard OBE, the English founder of the Garden City Movement, is known for his publication, “Tomorrow: A Peaceful Path to Real Reform, the description of a utopian city in which people live harmoniously together with nature.”
Sir Ebenezer founded Letchworth Garden City in 1903.
Neville House
Head of house: Miss Mills
House colour: Red
Sir Ralph Neville
The first Chair of the Garden City Association and (until his promotion as a judge) of First Garden City Ltd.
Sir Ralph introduced Sir Ebenezer to the wealthy and influential people that enabled the foundation of Letchworth Garden City.
Pearsall House
Head of house: Ms Balchin
House colour: Purple
Howard D. Pearsall
A member of the Fabian Society and a promoter of better housing for working people and a director of First Garden City Ltd.
Gorst House
Head of house: Mrs Sherman
House colour: Yellow
Sir John Gorst
Manager of Schools at Letchworth following on from his role as Minister of Education.
Sir John was the first chair of the first parish council of the first Garden City, Letchworth.
