Welcome to Fearnhill Sixth Form, a flourishing and aspirational place to study.

We work in consortium with The Highfield School to be able to offer an extensive range of Level 3 qualifications (A Levels, BTECs and AAQs). All students are offered the opportunity to further develop their independent enquiry skills through the Extended Project Qualification or Core Maths.

We are very proud of our Sixth Form; we have the highest expectations of our students and help them to develop as self-confident young adults with a strong sense of social, moral, spiritual and cultural values. We provide opportunities for our students to develop their leadership skills with the opportunity to be part of a proactive student leadership team, student voice and through an enrichment programme designed to develop personal, social and employability skills.

Students are also expected to take an active role in helping develop the younger students in the school. All of our Sixth Form students act as peer mentors to students at Key Stage 3, with some supporting students to develop their literacy and numeracy skills. Students in the Sixth Form are also expected to take an active part in the House system by being House Captains and acting as positive role models to the rest of the school.

Students at Fearnhill Sixth Form are well-supported. For students to be successful, it is important that they are happy, safe and motivated and our pastoral care supports our students to ensure that this is the case. We monitor students’ welfare and progress and offer support and advice whenever needed. All students are members of a tutor group of around 20 students. Their form tutor will meet with them every day and is their first point of contact for information sharing, answering queries and dealing with issues that may arise.

Academic progress is closely monitored and students receive regular feedback on their progress towards their target grades. Parents are kept informed through academic progress reports and through conversations with the Sixth Form Tutor. Students are advised and supported through their university application process. Students are also supported with their chosen routes after sixth form, such as applying for university, apprenticeships and full-time work.

I decided to apply to sixth form here because they offered a range of subjects that I found interesting and that I had never studied before. I like that in sixth form the classes are a lot smaller, all my 3 classes have less than 10 people. I like this because we can get 1-to-1 support if we need extra help with parts of the work. I also enjoy the free periods we get. This allows me to get school work finished and complete assignments that are due throughout the school day, so I don’t have to do them at home and I can have time to myself without having to stress about them not being completed.”
